I mean the U.N. has declared that U.S. prisons are racist and an affront to human dignity. They have even made claims against specific institutions such as the Judge Rotenberg Educational Center and accused them of torture (because of all the undeniable evidence of torture).

Imagine if a minister in Justin Trudeau’s cabinet made a mild joke about house dysfunction due to the republicans. Within an hour - if not minutes - house republicans would be tweeting for his execution. And if a reporter stopped one of them in the hallway to ask them if they were joking - they’d say “I wasn’t joking. We’ve got Predator drones. We should use one to take him out. He can’t criticize us. He can’t criticize the United States of America. He’s not allowed.”

I mean technically the UN does this about the Cuba Embargo every single year, it’s just that nothing happens. The problem is that we have too many people voicing concern and not enough people doing anything about it. Because doing something about it involves risking your skin.
I have a femme-presenting enby friend who has ulcerative colitis. There’s some new drug that their GI doctor wrote off prescribing them because it can cause birth defects. Didn’t even ask if they had any intention of becoming pregnant (they do not!).
They’re getting a new GI.
Why are doctors like this?
It really is crazy how many nutjobs are doctors. I remember simply asking about a vasectomy at my primary care doctor, and he said, “Not at your age (32)” and he handed me a pamphlet to a religious “counseling” group. Needless to say, I changed doctors and reported him to my insurance. I was irritated, but I can’t imagine how this woman felt being denied medication to alleviate her pain and allow her to function because she might get pregnant. WTF?
I honestly somewhat hoped that doctors like this were a tiny TINY minority because of both the intellectual curiosity and empathy needed to be a good doctor would practically bar CHUDs from getting anywhere near that field.

You generally do need parents to bankroll your undergrad and internships, which are quite gruelling compared to many other university level employment tracks

It may be, I don’t have any data regarding this behavior, this is just my anecdotal experience. I was sharing because the kinds of people who think this way would have certainly reacted the same or worse to women. I hope she was able to find actual care, as I know from other’s experience how debilitating chronic pain can be.
My vasectomy consult went smoothly at the same age, just for an extra data point. He did ask if I was sure, and whether I had any desire to have kids, which I think is standard procedure, but he didn’t try to talk me out of it.
I mean, that’s fair. It’s not quite as reversible as folks may think, so checking for conviction is fine. This guy just shut the convo down and told me to go to church, essentially.
Mine, at 30, didn’t even ask that. I just said “I wanted a vasectomy”, he was like “OK”, gave his spiel, sounded like he was tired of giving it, like it was the 100th time that week.

I strongly suspect that the brutal, completely pointless hazing of residencies combined with the brutality of med school weeds out many compassionate and normal people. Like residencies are pure psychological torment that serves no legitimate purpose and endangers patients. It was invented by a guy who needed a way to get off the floor so he could inject cocaine and sit out the effects for several hours without anyone wondering where he was. It’s stressful and psychologically damaging. And only people who can survive those conditions go on to become doctors.

Plus the whole process of going to medical school is expensive. I haven’t actually looked at any statistics, but I’m sure people who go to medical school already skew towards upper middle-class psycho families.

It’s amazing how quickly a doctor transforms into a fucking cop the exact moment discussion of painkillers comes up. That’s the instant all pretense of treating/diagnosing your condition flies out the window. Instead they’ll furiously conjure up bullshit excuses to invalidate your pain, call you a hypochondriac, or treat you like a lying drug addict. Or, as in this case, “protect” a hypothetical fetus.

not getting an appointment time until 4 years out? that’s a pretty hilarious exaggeration. im just saying doctors should be forced to listen to patients instead of their religions. i live in what is probably a mid sized city, plenty of doctors are taking new patients. Dermatologists have taken me the longest to get an appointment, but its still like 6 months not 5 years.
Yes, it’s exaggerated for comedic effect. People also say they waited forever in line despite not remaining there until the end of time.
IWhere I work it is standard practice to not give meds to fertile age females without a pregnancy test for liability reasons. People with drug problems will routinely refuse on the grounds they will test positive for drugs and then be given less. Thr solution is for the government to legalize drugs. What they will do instead, if thus is any indications, is remove more of women’s rights. So, it fucking sucks to be on the spearhead of this by getting a medical job. Unless this situation is wildly diffrent than normal judges will throw this exact type of case multiple times a day and the only reason this saw the light of day is that some PAC was looking for a test case
