Having a debate with an Italian guy about who is the bigger club and I think it’s close.

Both have won their domestic league 19 times and Milan have 1 more Champions League.

Milan probably have more well known legends like Van Basten, Kaka, Maldini, Gullit and Pirlo. But in recent years Liverpool have had Gerrard, Suarez, Alonso, VVD and Salah.

The current popularity of the Premier League helps Liverpool but Milan also has a huge fanbase.

I’m not a Liverpool fan or anything but I’d put them alongside Real Madrid, Man U and Barca as the most popular team in the world from a legacy standpoint. Milan for sure up there but not to the same level

Legacy standpoint? What exactly does liverpool have over milan in terms of legacy? Milan has more trophies, better players, more ballon d’or winners and also the best team of all time (except for 2008 barca)

        Milan has more trophies

By my count they have 1 more Champions League, same amount of league titles and fewer major domestic cups, so little between them in that sense.

        more ballon d’or winners

Fairs. However I doubt most people see this as a defining factor in determining the prestige of a club. Certainly less than trophies or famous brands of football.

        best team of all time

Both the late 80s/early 90s Milan side and the early 2000s side are contenders. But in case you’re referring to the early 2000s, apart from Milan Italian football during that 2004-2008 period was the shits. Match fixing (Juve relegation), uninspired tactics (except for Ancelotti). Since the start of the premier League I’d argue English football as a product has been at the forefront of innovation and competition, which is why I’d say Liverpool. It’s close for sure but they edge it for me
