That one random downvote on an otherwise innocuous comment:

Here’s the best way to get that reaction on Lemmy.

Windows is better than Linux. You can game easier, Install older programs easier, you most likely won’t have any issues or have security issues like the Linux crowd says you will. It has amazing built in antivirus and compatibility with tons of hardware. Etc

On Reddit, it was always saying that I prefer manual transmission over automatic that made people very, very angry. I never have understood that one except to think that some people takes it as a personal insult.

You could also say that lowering taxes on the rich is the best way to improve the economy.

I know I’d give it that reaction.

Well that’s just dumb though. Windows is actually good 👍. The strange point you’re trying to prove is basically proving my point.

It’s how my mom looks at me too. (I’m going to hell I guess)

Occasionally, someone goes through my post history and downvotes every post. I’d love to know who it is just so I can thank them for the amusement.

I guess they are a signal of disapproval, but its better to be honest and say what you think then to try and get liked in every post.

It can inhibit participation. A lot of people automatically downvote anyone with a negative score and upvote anyone with a positive score because of the peer pressure or something. It’s how the brigading and triple digit downvotes often get started.

It’s actually funny though. I said my fair share of generally downvoted stuff, but most of my replies that weren’t completely overlooked end up with something between 10 and 100 likes as well as exactly 1 dislike.
