He started touring again, has some bangers. I saw him in Minneapolis probably 6 months ago, and it reminded me of how much love he puts into his work.

Most genuine artist of my generation, much love to him.

I liked Otherside (the Ryan Lewis remix version) back in the day. Vipassana (remixed version) and Wings were also pretty good. A lot of his stuff is a bit cheesy. I think this track is ok (seems a bit rushed out and flawed). I disagree with the strategy of not voting for Biden in the presidential election though. I think he’s a sincere dude that just likes making tracks about his political beliefs, and possibly to “educate” his listeners with some songs.

I don’t think I realized just how siloed lemmy.world was until I saw the comments here vs the reception on IG and my other platforms.

Y’all have a wildly different flavor.

True unpopular opinion: this song is absolute fire and Macklemore is one of the most genuine and loving artists of my generation.

It’s honestly depressing. This is very easily the most right-wing/centrist social media site I use. I love the format of reddit, but hate the redditors. I thought Lemmy would be better but it’s not. And it’s not just that people disagree, they call everyone who disagrees a bot/troll/shill etc, and they freak out if you use swear words like… it’s the worst of tone-policing and performative liberalism all in one place.

I kinda want to start a ShitLemmySays lol, that was easily the best part of Reddit when they were active.

I want to believe it’s partially to do with the election coming up in the US, but the early infighting cut pretty deep, I don’t know that the political toxicity will ever completely go away.

Well keep in mind that a lot of Lemmy users (Lemmings? Lemmites? Lemmitors?) are from Reddit now. They are slightly more anticapitalist and anti-corporation, but otherwise, a lot of us are basically Redditors who took over this similar social media site.

I still think this place better than Reddit, though. I think a lot of the good users left, even if a majority weren’t politically aligned with original Lemmy. I browse through Reddit front page links when I’m bored at work, but I rarely find good stuff in the comments like I used to. It’s just mean and toxic, or vapid and pointless.

If trump wins, there will be no more Palestinians. Not in the Gaza strip at least. Israel will be free to take over all disputed territories and they will. Bibi is doing everything he can to make sure trump wins.

By the time Trump would take office, if Biden doesn’t change course and get tough on genocidal maniacs, Gaza will already be gone. They’re starving right now. Their infrastructure is gone and half their homes are unlivable. This isn’t a “seven months from now” problem.

I don’t think anyone should actually refuse to vote for Biden (in a swing state, if you’re solid blue/red do whatever the fuck you want), but if threatening to do so changes his course of action now, that can save lives. I firmly believe Biden is only where he is now because the antiwar campaigns are working and he’s scared about his weak polling.

Right, but one is hoping for thousands of people to not act like people, that is emotionally to issues that effect them, and the other one is hoping for a small group of people who have shown a history of bowing to pressure continue to do so. It’s much more realistic and a better avenue of effort.

Honestly, the size of lemmy.world kinda negates the benefits of federated social media. Instances are supposed to be small so as to be more manageable to moderate, so that you don’t have to defederate with every instance with a slightly different background.

The defederation campaigns from about 8 months ago ended up narrowing the spectrum of users and content along a pretty specific political line, and that means that certain political topics get a pretty drastic misrepresentation of opinions. Lemmy.world in some ways became defined by those disagreements, and so any time a topic approaches that line you get a crowd of people trying to enforce the distinction.

Other instances (even the ones lemmy.world ended up defederating with over political disagreements) have far more varied opinions on the exact topics that .world seems really uncomfortable with.

edit: just noticed you said ‘deconfederation’, and idk if that was intentional but it’s actually 'defederation. Deconfederation makes it sound like it was a civil war (maybe that’s an apt description though…)

Yup. The use of ‘lemmygrad’, ‘hexbear’, ‘tankie’ (at least it’s frequent usage on lemmy.world) all stemmed from that tumultuous time just after the reddit migration where the various instances were fighting over politics. It’s a deep lore and maybe even a bit more complicated than I alluded to, but that period has definitely left its mark on the community.

Other instances are much better, but because lemmy.world is so large and their communities attract the most activity, they kinda set the tone for the whole lemmy/kbin activitypub implementation.

I’m on both; this is a pretty lemmy-specific thing. I think it stems from people who migrated from reddit into a platform that was already being used by groups with a much stronger left-lean. If you’ve been on reddit you might be able to guess: they did not cope with that well.

I think the real moderation should always be happening at the community level. Admins should only be influencing accounts doing illegal or immoral stuff and through their general tolerance for trollish behavior. The same stuff applies to the communities though. I like that there are multiple “politics” communities so you can choose your flavor of community moderation, but there’s certainly a tendency to just assume the biggest is the “real” one.

I think what Lemmy needs to solve this issue is being able to easily tie in the comments from all the cross-posted subs you subscribe to, then assuming say someone subscribes to politics on .world, .ml, and beehaw, you can get all the flavors without one set of mods or users being able to define the whole Lemmy “politics” culture. And if one flavor annoys the shit out of you, you can just unsubscribe from that one and not have it be part of your experience.

It is in fact not fire. It’s edgy but the composition is lacking soul. It’s just a convoluted, non provoking edge piece. I don’t find it thought provoking or relatable. It’s just a bunch of political references thrown together.

Biden knows what he needs to do to salvage his election, but the whole ideology behind this stubbornness and heavy police crackdown on protests is based on the fury Important People feel when they’re told to do something by their inferiors.

No no. It can’t be that fascists have solidarity and a good chance to win. Or that reasonable people are rightfully worried. Everyone you disagree with, or who calls you out for being self sabotaging, is a “dumb liberal”. Very mature.

Reasonable people are worried and make a plea to “please think of the women who will need abortions”. Or better yet, are out organizing with empathy. But zero votes will be gained by castigating people online, especially on a topic where Biden is well outside of the Democratic mainstream.

Fascist-aligning liberals, like the account above, don’t really care about results just that the people they dislike will get hurt. He’s absolutely giddy at the idea that the (at worst, immature and misguided) lefties will get more jackboots when Trump wins. He was probably watching the BLM crackdowns with glee too. They have a lot in common with groups like the Proud Boys for whom politics is more about seeing power exerted on the people who annoy them than any real policies.

This account joined Lemmy 10 hours ago to call the youth brainwashed and rejoice that Trump will make the cops even more violent. Why are you defending them?

    Track is 🔥.

I think it is a travesty our two party system has left voters with this the traumatic decision of supporting genocide or assisting a rise of authoritarianism. That is beyond fucked up. This is the quintessential Hobson’s Choice. It’s okay if people stay out of this vote, imo. It’s not 2016. There are other world issues besides american freedom. And people are not bad people for being unable to support either side. No one is winning come November, no matter what. We’re deciding who suffers.

This is not what society was for. We did not invent agriculture and schools and crawl out of the hellish nomadic life of our animalistic ancestors for THIS. This is all bad. What do we do???

I’m going to vote Biden. Lesser of two evils and all. NOT voting for either isn’t going to make me feel like i sidestepped any responsibility for travesties. But i can completely understand wanting to obtstain this time around.

No one is winning, but staying out of the election means you’re ok risking the life of every woman, every trans person, every immigrant, and every person of color in the US. If Trump gets in, anyone who isn’t a white, cishet, Christian man is at risk of violence or death.

I will be holding my nose to vote, I fucking hate Biden, but he’s the only realistic chance we have at stopping homegrown genocide. If Trump gets in, I’m immediately looking for a way out before the gestapo can get to me.

That said, if we survive this election, we have to strategically topple the shit system that caused this scenario

Voting biden doesn’t guarantee avoiding those things either, trump may still win. What it does guarantee if biden wins though is more financial aid for Israel. Just because someone refuses to pull the train lever and switch tracks to run over the person tied on the other tracks does not mean they don’t care about either persons lives. It’s an unfair request. I understand that you are personally closer to what’s happening in America, but I hope you can open your mind enough to see that there are other lives on the line as well and that yours isn’t any more important than theirs.

You’re delusional if you don’t think Trump is going to carte blanche Israel. He literally said they have to get the job done. He’s shown more support for Israel than Biden has. I would not be surprised if he gives Bibi the go ahead to nuke Gaza.

Voting for Biden doesn’t guarantee a Biden win, but not voting pushes the scale towards a Trump win. One of these two Zionist fossils is becoming president one way or the other, and both of them are going to send millions of taxpayer dollars to a genocidal maniac. The goal with voting is to minimize the amount of damage they can do.

Trump hasn’t won a single election yet, and continues to lose support through attrition by the day. He had as many votes in 2016 as he will ever have, and he lost by 3.5 million votes.

2020 he lost by 8.1 million votes, not even the electoral college felt they could overturn that one.

Unless some third party candidate comes out of left field, and manages to be as popular as Bernie, then a Trump trouncing is all but inevitable come November. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if he loses the popular vote by a full 15 million votes this time. However if a third party candidate like that appears, Trump wins. Not Biden.

They haven’t had the time to produce more Trump voters so attrition is all that their roles are seeing.

That being said, they will kick you off the registered voting records for absolute BS. Ensure you are registered, register for mail in if you can. Make your voice heard. The right always does, and they are always the minority.

Also that being said, the last 4 elections, both Presidential and Mid term, have all seen a dramatic rise in voter turnout. Hopefully that trend continues till we hit 99.999999% of the vote. I don’t believe it is actually possible to get that high, and 100% is certainly unattainable because there are people that refuse to vote no matter how easy it is for them to do so.

      I’m with you like 80%.

I can’t, with a straight face, say, it’s okay if people stay out, but I can say I completely understand why they would.

I can’t imagine hard it must be for uninformed people to figure out what’s true at this point. I was able to do it, imo, during the early days of youtube when there wasn’t nearly as much misinformation, or straight-up fascist propaganda like there is nowadays, flowing freely. Now, I legit don’t think I could do it starting at 18 with the clear understanding that I was being lied to and misinformed by supposed experts - really just pundits on corporate media networks.
