      Yeah, if you like something don’t learn about how it’s done, just think god gave it to you like that. If you think about it you ain’t gonna eat anything anymore. Everything we buy is either very disgusting or involve some kind of torture/slavery (human or not). So either don’t think or think a lot and only eat from your own garden. (fyi I live in a flat so I can’t have a garden)

        Really depends on where you draw the line on processing I guess.

        Cooking? Killing? Seasoning?

        There’s a popular dish in Thailand; กุ้งเต้น Goong Dten “Dancing Shrimp”; made of tiny whole live shrimp seasoned with lime and chilies.

        Arguably less processed than a raw oyster

          I think puritans will say unprocessed is live unseasoned.

          I have tried raw oysters once and found that they are only palatable when cooked, as swallowing a ball of slime was not easy, and lemon did not help at all.

      There are different degrees of processing. The “meat” mentioned here is ultra-processed garbage. Cutting out and grilling a steak is similar to digging out, peeling and cooking a potato.

    God, my sister bought a can because she was visiting and wanted to try it, and didn’t eat it before leaving so I thought I’d eat it to get rid of it… 😩

    I can’t remember the last time I gagged while eating something, but this caused me to almost vomit mom’s spaghetti.

    That’s dog food. Not meant for human consumption.

    Side question: the US you don’t have ham made from a single piece of meat?

    In my country that is the norm for ham, an abomination like that has no market. The only similar to it is something like “low fat chicken ham” (not actually called ham on the box as it would be false advertising)

      Yes it is.

      When processed, the meat bits, (and yes they are leftover meat bits), are ground into a paste with water added, (nearly all ham you buy has “Water Added” listed on the tag - exception would be something like “country ham” or prosciutto ham), then pumped into a carboy, (the paste is then called babbit), seasonings are then mixed in and then molded by machine into a glorious block 'o ham! To be sold at your local Deli as part of a delicious sandwich for which you happily pay your “hardly earned” monies.

          Eh, such products minimize the waste of things that would otherwise be thrown away and lost. Us humans have been processing the scraps and leftovers of our food into other edible products for as long as we can remember - Waste not, Want not.

          The problem is the disconnect modern urbanites have from their food and not knowing how it gets made. If you like deli ham eat it! (in moderation as all things should be), it’s not all that different in processing than a hot dog, sausage, or hamburger. Or even cheese…

          I don’t see how this is particularly any more gross than other ways of preparing meat?

          I mean shit you kill something and eat it, however you go at it, meat’s meat.

          How is that any different than a sausage, hamburger, or any other food using ground meat? If we are going to eat meat, it’s better to utilize as much of the animal as possible.

          I’d be fine with it if it didn’t also taste exactly like what it is, a shitty low quality by-product, it’s low key dog food. Actual ham is fire tho.

      Sav-a-lot used to have this gigantic like 8lb chub of ham. It was cheap enough for us poor folks to get. That stuff was so good. Just a gigantic log of chopped ham pressed into a brick.

      Somehow they must’ve lost money. Cuz they’re only sold at a few chains out in the Midwest nowadays and they’re way smaller than they used to be.

      I don’t think this low effort spam is available in the deli section where I am. Though I would order it shredded just to annoy people.

        It’s not Spam, it’s “deli ham” (Armour brand makes the big one) or “Polish Ham”(Krakus brand). So much more bland than spam.

        Source: former deli worker. Fuck that job and fuck anyone who orders chipped/shredded deli meat.
