Ah yes, that classic “freedom of speech” they’re always yelling about.
Well, hate speech isn’t coveredUgh yes of course it is, that’s what I get for optimism, but this is really beyond the pale. It’s like modern Republicans have forgotten the golden rule: “turnabout is fair play”. Time to make speech in support of Trump or anyone else in the GQP an act of treason! After all, there’s not a more anti-American organisation out there./s, not because I believe the GQP are pro-American but because turnabout (while fair play) doesn’t actually fix anything.
“hate speech” is covered. That’s why the KKK can have marches on the streets. Well, that and the kops are members.
Fuck me, you’re right. I shouldn’t be surprised.
Are you serious? They aren’t forgetting that rule, they’re taking it to insanity. Trump supporters have been called treasonous for literally years now, and the most egregious shit is mainly knee jerk turnabout already.
No Mark Twain because n-word, k, we’ll ban whole ass libraries. Want sanctuary for immigrants and homeless, we’ll bus you thousands of them. Republicans aren’t forgetting turnabout, they’re escalating the fuck out of it.
Trump is 100% going to be calling Biden and Biden supporters “enemy of the state” (if he isn’t already) because it’s been said of him. Every remotely sketchy thing his opposition does, he adds it to his list of sketchy shit that he can get away with, and there are others taking up the same tactic, some of whom are arguably even more trump with it than trump…
Trump is 100% going to be calling Biden and Biden supporters “enemy of the state” (if he isn’t already)
Is “destroyer of democracy” close enough? 'Cause that happened Saturday.
“destroyer of democracy” From the “accuse others of what you you are doing”, crowd. Republicans who are working so hard to destroy democracy. Nice. Oh, and hugging the flag that you intend to rape is a nice touch too.
Exactly. They’re doing shit where certain responses are necessary and reasonable then screaming that turnabout is fair play as they escalate. Attempt a coup, then when your opponent tries to punish you for it swear to arrest him when you’re back in power.
“Freeze peach means PATRIOTISM (like unquestioning support of a foreign country that sells US military secrets to China) is MANDATORY while TREASON (like not supporting a literal coup attempt) is ILLEGAL”

Resolved, That the House of Representatives—
(1) strongly condemns and denounces all instances of antisemitism occurring in the United States and globally;
(2) reaffirms and reiterates its strong support for the Jewish community at home and abroad;
(3) calls on elected officials and world leaders to condemn and fight all forms of domestic and global antisemitism;
(4) clearly and firmly states that anti-Zionism is antisemitism; and
(5) rejects all forms of terror, hate, discrimination, and harassment of members of the Jewish communityWhile the statement in #4 is absolutely ridiculous, all this is is a resolution. It doesn’t outlaw anti-Israeli statements, it just condemns Hamas and support that isn’t for Israel, while calling for others to follow suit. It’s a strongly worded letter at best.
Statement #4 makes everything else worse. It’s basically linking criticism of Israel as criticism of Judaism in general. Without it, you’d be right, but with it it makes all of it ten times worse.
Yeah without it I’m in full support of it. I stand firmly with the Jewish community at home and abroad. But I also don’t think they have the ancestral right to Palestine. I think the people who live in Palestine are gonna have to learn to share the place but Israel is clearly struggling with that. The two state solution has failed, and I, being someone who thinks unnecessary bloodshed and removing people from land due to their ethnic or religious background are bad, endorse a shared state solution instead.
Also calling anti Zionism antisemitism is appalling considering how many Jewish people are antizionists.
The thing is… everything else is already covered by anti hate-crime legislation. Basically just repetition of already established doctrine. Linking that to a zionism = Judaism rule of law essentially taints all action to prevent hate-crime. Which is one of the many goals of the current conservative power base.
everything else is already covered by anti hate-crime legislation
Not really. Antisemitism is perfectly legal, you can chant anti-Jewish slogans all day long and there’s nothing the state can do. If you chant them while committing a crime, however, IE if you beat someone while chanting anti-Jewish slogans, your assault charge gets upgraded to a hate crime.
I disagree. There’s been increasing antisemitism and antisemitic attacks. There’s a strong need for us as a country to loudly and publicly decry antisemitism. But this is taking that need and trying to fit support for Israel no matter what their government does to that.
No. You’re missing the very important connection to already existing laws. You know, for hate crimes.
Still meaningless unless an explicit equivalence of anti-zionism to antisemitism in the context of hate crime law actually passes the Senate and gets signed by Biden to become law (and then survives the inevitable SCOTUS challenge, which it would not because political speech is incredibly protected by the First Amendment).
This is such a deliberately inflammatory and misleading headline that I wish I could say I was surprised people who claim to be independent critical thinkers are falling for it, but of course it’s not actually that surprising at all.
House Resolutions are practically meaningless, and you could fill books with incredibly moronic examples. Not to mention, priming ourselves to be constantly outraged over things that have no practical effect at all makes it harder to drum up support for criticizing things that are actually worth the outrage. Senator Rubio, for instance, re-introduced a bill this year that would offer support to government agencies that impose sanctions on any association with the BDS movement, just for one example.
If people would take half the outrage they get over stupid shit like this and instead pick up the phone for five minutes to call their Representative and urge greater humanitarian conditions on any Israeli aid package, that would actually accomplish something more useful than a fun little dopamine hit from being angry.
That would just formulate the status quo: You are verboten to criticise the state of Israel in any way, and the punishment is being classified as being an “antisemite”. The Israeli governments of the last decades have turned this into an art form of their own, and most media have learned to heel automatically.
Which in turn weakens the gravity of people being real antisemites.
Meanwhile, just a couple of days ago in Texas:
You have to pick 1, guys. Just one.
Maybe they have?
People who “suddenly decided” to vote for Trump over Biden because of his support of Israel would be in shambles right now if they weren’t already acting in bad faith
I don’t even understand what they expect Joe biden to do? He doesn’t control Isreal, he doesn’t control funding to Isreal, he told Isreal to cease fire, he even warned Isreal of the dangers of going down the same path the united states went down after 9/11. But these people think biden is committing genocide, and I’ll tell you what Trump would have never even got a cease fire he would have pushed through as much aid to Isreal to make sure all Muslims were eliminated because republican hatred goes brown people, Muslims, jews
Doesn’t matter Biden is doing what Trump says he would do.
Their words are different. Their actions the same.
Great reason to vote for one of them over the other /s
Anyways their policies are different in other areas. Obviously. I mean, they’re in opposite parties.
“Stop criticizing the giant concentration camp we set up in the holy land to hold all the jews while we wait for our magic prophecy to happen! That’s antisemitic!”
hahahahahahahahahaha bimbos
religulous.
CONTEXT: this is a resolution. It carries no force of law and congress says dumb shit in resolutions all the time. A bill to rename a post office would be more consequential than this.
“Republicans”
Am I supposed to believe Democrats won’t fall in line?
The cosponsor of this bill is a Democrat.
