Ohh I have some bad news for you regarding flat earthers. It’s one of those conspiracy theories that seems harmless and fun at first glance, but then you ask them why it is that every single government on the planet would all agree to lie about the shape of the world when so many of those govenments are enemies and would love any opportunity to make the others look bad.

And surprise surprise, the flat earthers answer is It’s the jews

      They’re just whimsical nazis basically

Which is dumb as hell, the earth used to be flat until Al Pharazon sailed a fleet from Numenor to conquer the Valar. Illuvatar wasn’t gonna see that happen again and made the world round. WHICH IS WHY ELVES CAN SEE REALLY FAR DESPITE THE EARTH’S CURVATURE, DAVE.

Flat earthers also really abusive/controlling and paranoid in my personal experience. The kind of person to secretly install location tracking apps on their partners phone for instance.

        Don’t ask how I know this…

Makes sense. People believe in a conspiracy theory like that because they are insecure and feel like they are lacking control over their own life. So they would be likely to be a controlling and manipulative partner as a result.

I’ve seen a type of flat earther that - at least as far as I can’t tell - aren’t anti-Semitic. Instead they get into it because they take biblical literalism very seriously. The Bible does imply that the earth is flat and tbh I don’t think that believing the earth is flat is a lot crazier than thinking Noah’s flood was a real, global event as described in the Bible.

It feels like there’s a segment of evangelicalism that’s getting even more serious about biblical literalism. I’ve even seen an emerging “slavery is good, actually” thought among them. Because the Bible absolutely condones slavery and the excuse of “well God allowed the Israelites to do it because everyone else around them did too, and it was normal at the time” has more holes in it than Swiss cheese.

I love the jump straight to Abraham Lincoln. It’s a good point. The 6’4" wrestling champion with an iconic beard was AFAB? You guys sure bout that one?

What is it about transphobia that rots people’s brains in this way? This is getting to full on “every single politician is a secret lizard person” levels of brain mush.

Because our concepts of gender and sexuality are massive oversimplifications of complex systems which people have long since forgotten the historical reasons for. To engage with them as an adult really does leave you staring into the void, especially if you’re doing so ahistorically and with the goal of upholding some aspect of this childish patriarchal construct.

I think transvestigation is strange in that its not transphobic in its core but its outward manifestation is completely transphobic. The core of transvestigation seems to come from insecure women who know they could never look like celebrities and dont consider the wealth that buys the surgeries, chefs and personal trainers that are needed to look like that and instead conclude that it must be because celebrities are trans. After that they have to create an entire mythology to make ‘every famous person is trans’ make sense as a political project. The racism against black women that had chuds convinced Michelle Obama was probably very influential in their worldbuilding.

A bit how certain strains of 19th century anti-semitism were described as ‘socialism of fools.’

the core of transvestigation is the basic fact that sex and gender are socially constructed. they encounter this fact and it doesn’t fit with their worldview so they triple down on transphobia.

I’m convinced they likely have bodily or facial features that are, on the surface level, common to the opposite gender. Because they hate trans people and have internalized the strict gender binary, they cope by becoming delusional and thinking everyone is secretly trans. If everyone is secretly trans, then they won’t feel bad because they’re a biological woman with an Adam’s apple or some shit.

Me: You know, if it’s this easy to present as a gender, maybe that proves that gender is an artificial construct, and caring about their genotype is a waste of time.
